Charles Bonello has served as a Councillor and Minority Leader of the Fgura Local Council since 1997, during which time he has held responsibility in several areas. He works as the Personal Assistant of former Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi.

Throughout his political career he was Private Secretary of Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi and coordinator of official and state visits to Malta between 2004 and 2013. He also served on various boards and governing commissions.

Charles is an affiliate of the Nationalist Part (EPP) and is the President of the College of Local Councillors of the Party. He is a member of the Administrative Committee and the Executive Committee of the same Party. He also served as the PN’s representative on the Local Council reforms of 2010 and 2018.

His work has been recognized with honors from several Heads of State including of Italy, Germany, Spain, Hungary, Cyprus, Austria and Tunisia.
