GRISI PLUS - Geomatics Rural Information Society Initiative PLUS, is an INTERREG IVC project, supported by the European Regional Development Fund.
The main goal of the GRISI PLUS project is modernize and enrich the public rural development policies in partners’ regions by increasing the use of geographical information and geomatic tools. Indeed, geomatics constitutes a significant tool since one can associate 80% of existing information on geographical coordinates, which permits to geolocalize them on interactive maps and geoportals on the Internet.

The means to improve existing rural development policies which use geographic informationare the following:
  • Development of the attractiveness of territories: Creation of geoportals where practices and welcoming opportunities of villages wishing to attract new inhabitants will be available.
  • Economic development and attraction of new enterprises through promotion of tangibale and intangible products

The sub-objectives of the GRISI PLUS project are the following:
  • To manage the project efficiently in line with the IVC procedures.
  • To elaborate and implement a complete communication plan.
  • To disseminate good practices that have been exchanged and evaluated during the project to
  • other EU regions
  • To edit and diffuse a good practice guide (based on 10 good practices exchanged), in 11 languages.
  • To communicate towards citizens mainly through the website and the project webpages that will be diffused in existing websites in each partner region.
  • To identify geomatics good practices in economic development policies of rural territories within partner regions.
  • To improve in the long run public policies in the field of rural economic development. Each partner region will produce a coherent good practice implementation plan to achieve perennial results after the project end.
  • To foster experience exchange and improve geomatics skills and knowledge of public key players and technicians.
  • To make GRISI PLUS good practices last in existing online media in each partner region.
  • To increase the use of geomatics ergonomic tools to facilitate decision-making for elected members.
  • To improve EU regional cooperation. Geoportals are privileged communication tools between the regions for they are going past linguistic barriers. It should be noticed that the good practices of the EU INSPIRE directive will be taken into account in all geomatics applications to be used within the project.
Project Duration: 01/01/2012 – 31/12/2014
